This 3M Half-Face Respirator is capable of providing safe respiratory protection in extreme comfort. When used in conjunction with 3M’s P100 particulate filters this half-face respirator helps provide protection against particulates and a wide variety of gases and vapors when used in conjunction with 3M’s P100 filter pads and 3M cartridges. When properly fitted and used with those filters, this 3M respirator helps provide respiratory protection at concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL).
While there are a lot of owners of this mask that simply use it to do general home projects such as sawing, cleaning, dusting, sanding or work with chemicals and paints, this 3M respirator provides safety to a number of industrial workplace activities, such as abatement, painting, welding, chemical handling, construction, utilities, mining, pharmaceutical, and smelting.
3M have made this 7500 half-respirator with a unique silicone body and skirting to provide a more improved face seal than many rubber and plastic respirators and making it far more comfortable than most other designs. The use of this soft, flexible silicone gives the respirator’s contact points a much softer feel, which when worn for long periods (4 hours or more) still feels quite comfortable and doesn’t hinder breathing for the wearer.
The front part of the 3M 7500 series consists of the respirator’s fundamental working parts: the filter holders (two on either side), exhalation valve cover, and the connection points of the straps. While the face seal itself is made of silicone rubber, the filter holders and exhalation valve cover are made of polybutylene terephthalate.
The silicone-based nosecup of the 3M 7500 series uses 3M’s cool flow exhalation valve design which allows the wearer to breathe much easier through the filters, and dispenses with exhaled air directly out of the mask through the exhalation valves. The exhalation valves put exhaled air downward out of this 3M respirator so that there is less heat around the facepiece and no chance of a build-up in moisture. The facepiece also opens a lot easier than past models which gives a much lower exhalation breathing resistance. This means that there is much less of an impact on routine breathing for the wearer.
The 3M 7500 series uses polyester/polyurethane straps for its head harness system with a polyethylene head cradle. The straps are fastened to the facepiece system using fastening clip buckles. The pull points on the harness are located closer to the face of the mask to act as tighteners when pulled together.
The 7500 respirator series also integrates a unique drop-down suspension on the mask so that it can be easily unclipped away from the face while still wearing the straps. This is a functional implementation from 3M for wearers to be able to still wear other equipment such as a protective suit or hardhat over the head. In past circumstances, removing a respirator from the face meant a wearer would have to remove their helmet. In some workplaces this is a breach of safety, therefore this drop-down innovation exists.
The 3M Half-Face Respirator uses it own 3M-made NIOSH-approved P100 filters. These filters are a lightweight Advanced Electret Media filter (AEM) that have a 99.97% filter efficiency and are a light option that does not hinder breathing at all. The particulate filters by 3M means that they can provide a very versatile protection against many oil and non-oil based particulate contaminants and are effective for concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL).
It should be noted that as these are particulate filters, they are only designed to filter aerosols (dust, mists, fumes, smoke, mold, bacteria, etc). These P100 filters are not to be used for respiratory protection against acid gases or in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health (ILDH).
The 3M Full-Face Respirator 6900 comes with accessories a number of accessories for functionality, cleaning and assembly. It comes with:
The 3M Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 7500 provides protection against particulates and a wide variety of gases and vapors as well as provide respiratory protection at concentrations up to 10 times the Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) when used with approved 3M cartridges and filters. The reason why this specific respirator was made was to deal with comfort issues that many people were having, so 3M designed this respirator out of silicone keeping the hard contact points soft and flexible against the face.
3M’s 7500 respirator uses an advanced silicone material that provides a softer feel on the face which especially helps those that have difficulties wearing a respirator with comfort and need to do so for long periods. A unique adjustment design helps reduce pressure points on the face for even more comfort. This respirator also uses a cool flow valve that helps make breathing easier and can offer cooler and drier comfort for the wearer. The head harness may be adjusted to drop down when not in active use, which allows respirator to be removed without taking off a hard hat. The exhalation valve cover directs exhaled breath and moisture downward while helping protect the valve area from debris while also making for easier cleaning.
The sizing of these works similar to most of 3M’s respirators, with a medium fitting a 6′ male, while a small is suitable for a 5’4″ female.

Answer: In conjunction with the NIOSH-approved P100 particulate filter, the 3M 7500 Half-Face Respirator can filter 99.97% of oil and non-oil based particulates for a wearer. It should be noted that as these are particulate filters, they are only designed to filter aerosols (dust, mists, fumes, smoke, mold, bacteria, etc). These P100 filters are not to be used for respiratory protection against acid gases or in environments that are immediately dangerous to life or health (ILDH).
