Dust Mask Type

The Unigear dust mask is a sport and performance-based filter capable of providing respiratory protection during in high-pollutant areas, during exercise or just around the house, all with extreme comfort and wearability. As a safety measure, it prevents up to 98% of dust, chemical and smoke particles that you may experience every day, which otherwise are passing through to your body and affecting your health.

Many wearers of this dust mask use it as it is a very affordable option to filter out most of the hazards that we might come across in our everyday lives, either on the street or around the home. For instance, this mask has been used in particulate environments such as:

  • Filtering dust while sawing wood in a wood shop
  • As a protective barrier for runners in cold climates that don’t want to breathe in overly cold air
  • When mowing the yard
  • For asthmatics that are cleaning dusty areas
  • As a protective option for airsoft and paintball players
  • Filtering out pollen during Spring
  • Residents of high pollutant and toxic cities

Dust Mask Filter System

The Unigear Activated Carbon Dust Mask filter

The Unigear activated carbon filter mask uses a number of layers to filter toxic or dusty air into clean, breathable oxygen. First, the outer fabric uses an external filter layer that blocks the larger particles. This is similar to holding fabric, such as a t-shirt, over your face when running through smoke. This layer adds as a protectant to the second layer which uses activated carbon to filter out benzene and car exhausts. The third layer is an electrostatic cotton filter that is able to filter 0.3-micron dust, which is reinforced by a fourth layer of reinforced cotton to strengthen the filter and reinforce the cotton filtration. The last layer, which is responsible for maintaining the heat inside of the mask, is a nonwoven layer and provide a breathable comfort to the wearer as well as ensuring maximum comfort for long-duration use.

All components are easily available to buy and replace to keep the mask performing a strong filtration.

Nosebridge

Unigear Activated Carbon Dust Mask nose piece

Unigear’s dust mask uses an aluminum frame-piece over the nose bridge of the mask to allow for customization to different face shapes. When wearing, the wearer simply has to squeeze down over the frame onto the bridge of their nose and the dust mask will assume the shape of the bridge of the nose. This allows the mask to provide a more firm seal over the face, ensuring that no unfiltered air is able to creep in, just because of poor fitting issues.

Exhalation Valves

This dust mask uses a double-air breathing valve. This is so that there is less air resistance on the mask so that it can be used in scenarios where there is heavy breathing, such as running, cycling, and other exercise events. The double air valves also allow the mask to release exhaled air much easier, an important process so that the mask does not overheat or cause moisture on the inside of the mask.

These are available for purchase easily should the need to be replaced.

Dust Mask Harness

The Unigear Dust Mask uses an elastic-based strap that comfortably wraps around the back of the head, underneath the ears. It connects firmly just beneath the hairline with a velcro which keeps it in a stable position. Unigear Activated Carbon Dust Mask size

About The Unigear Activated Carbon Dust Mask

Unigear Activated Carbon Dust Mask review

Unigear’s dust mask is designed as an activity-based comfortable mask that keeps out 98% of dust, chemicals, particulates, gas, pollen, smoke and fumes. These are highly popular in smoggy cities as they offer great anti-dust and anti-car exhaust protection while doing activities that may increase your breathing capacity, such as running or cycling.

The make of the mask is primarily elastic, so as to make sure it can be one-size fits all. It comes with a fixed aluminum sheet on the bridge of the nose which can be made to fit the bridge of the nose to ensure a comfortable and firm fit. There are a variety of uses for this type of mask, from mowing the lawn, to running in extremely cold climates (if you have sensitivities to the cold when exercising). I personally used this mask when driving around on a motorbike in busy Chinese and Vietnamese cities such as Ho Chi Minh, where thick traffic smog, dust, and exhaust can leave you with a dry cough by the end of the day.

I just bought three of these after reading your review. We live in Vietnam and regularly come back for holidays. Originally we were just wearing the plain masks you buy on the side of the road which is what a lot of the locals wear, but since I have been doing more traveling on the bike in regional Saigon areas I have found that they really don’t work as well as something actually made to filter.

Of course, I am not an athlete or sportsperson by any means, and when I exercise, it’s indoors. But if I was to run outside I feel like I could wear one of these quite comfortably.

The other best thing is, this doesn’t touch my lips, so when I go to work I don’t have to reapply my lipstick… it’s the small things in life that help 😀

Cheers Esmee. I’m glad you made the commitment. They really are comfortable aren’t they!

I am interested to see what your kids think of wearing them?
